Semantics, anyone?

Just because the suffix "ism" can be used to denote an addiction to alcohol, a neurological condition, artistic movements, etc, doesn't negate the author's argument, which is compelling, that the institution of racism shares the attributes of the other systems he mentions, i.e., that it is characterized by "policies, practices and procedures". I thinkest thou misseth the point, Horatio.

And it's certainly the clearest explanation I've read of how systemic racism works and how it is unrelated to individual acts of unkindness or prejudice. It chugs along on its own power.

As he points out, there is no other way to explain the ongoing disparities in outcomes - outcomes that continue even as white people pipe inanities like, "I'm color-blind" or "there's no POC in our workplace because none of them applied for the job..."
